Sort the Debris Before You Choose the Dumpster

Group 1: ordinary dry project debris

Common household cleanout goods, wood, drywall, flooring, cabinets, and similar dry construction material may be accepted when the quote allows them. Keep liquids and unknown containers out.

Acceptance still depends on the receiving facility, container, and whether the material is mixed.

Group 2: ask before loading

These items may carry special preparation, fees, quantity limits, or a separate route. Written approval prevents a disagreement at pickup.

Group 3: plan dense material by weight

Concrete, brick, block, rock, dirt, asphalt, plaster, and roofing can reach transport limits long before a box looks full. State whether the load is clean or mixed and follow the material-specific fill line.

Kingsport lists several construction and demolition materials at its Brookside Lane landfill. That public facility list is local disposal context, not a promise that every private container accepts the same mixture.

Group 4: keep out until a proper route is confirmed

• Paints, solvents, fuels, oils, pesticides, and other liquids.
• Batteries and propane or compressed-gas cylinders.
• Medical or infectious waste.
• Asbestos-containing or suspected asbestos material.
• Hot ashes or burning debris.
• Unknown chemicals, drums, and contaminated soil.

Use a loading-day control area

Place uncertain items beside the work area instead of in the box. Photograph labels and request a decision before loading. This is especially useful for estates, garages, barns, and older renovations where containers or building materials are not fully identified.

Three details make an acceptance answer useful

1. Name the item precisely, including coating or contamination.
2. Give the approximate quantity and condition.
3. Ask whether it can share the quoted load and whether a fee or preparation rule applies.
